Abrupt Mass Layoff Spurs Class Action Against Truland

The abrupt closure of electrical contractor Truland has spurred a class action suit from two former employees, who say the company violated federal law by not giving workers at least 60 days notice before shutting its doors. Truland terminated all employees on July 21 and ceased operations, preparing to file  for bankruptcy at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of Alexandria July 23. The federal Worker Adjustments and Retraining Notification Act requires that employees by given at least 60 days advance notice before a mass layoff or plant closure. The employees seek wages and  benefits they would have enjoyed in that 60-day period, such as accumulated sick time and vacation days.
