Billionaire Settles Libel Lawsuit Over ‘Foul Mouthed’ Comment

A reporter with the Wall Street Journal wrote an article in 2012 calling billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson “foul-mouthed.” Adelson sued. In the agreement, both sides would dismiss and bear their own legal costs. The article in question, written by gambling industry reporter Kate O’Keeffe, called Adelson, “a scrappy, foul-mouthed billionaire from working-class Dorchester, Mass.” The case was brought in Hong Kong, where it’s easier for plaintiffs to win libel cases than in the U.S. Though O’Keefe co-write the article, Adelson named only O’Keefe in the suit.
