CA Judges Banned From Boy Scouts

California’s Supreme Court has voted to eliminate an exemption that allowed the state’s judges to continue participating in the Boy Scouts organization. Though judges in the state are prohibited from belonging to non-profit organizations that practice discrimination—as the Boy Scouts does with gay leaders—an exemption had been on the books regarding non-profit youth organizations. The rule change does not take effect until January 2016, which places pressure on the Boy Scouts organization to lift its stance barring openly gay men or women from serving as troop leaders or volunteers.
