Corporate Heavyweights Target Patent Trolls

Major companies in the retail and hotel and restaurant industries have joined high-tech stalwarts like Google, Facebook and Adobe to form a new lobbying group, called United for Patent Reform, to push for anti-troll legislation. The co-chair of the new group, which includes Macy’s, JCPenney and the National Association of Realtors, is Beth Provenzano, vice president of government relations for the National Retail Federation. She told Brian Fung of The Washington Post she expects the new group will soon enlist hundreds of members. Chief counsel of United for Patent Reform will be Susan Davies, a partner at Kirkland & Ellis.
