DOJ Sues United Airlines On Behalf Of Pilot

According to a complaint filed in Chicago federal court, United Airlines violated a pilot’s employment rights by failing to credit him with sick leave while he was deployed as a reservist in southwest Asia for more than one year. The DOJ said the carrier did so despite offering such benefits to other employees on similar leave, thus violating the federal Uniformed Services Employment and Re-employment Rights Act. United said it believes its policies comply with USERRA, and that it is “committed to supporting the many aviation professionals at our airline who served or who are currently serving in the military.”
