Many companies use third party social media sites, for a variety of purposes including marketing and interacting with customers. A post from the Bryan Cave firm reminds companies they could run into trouble if the third party platform’s privacy practices are not consistent with that of the company. A chart tells the story with numbers: Eighty percent of Fortune 500 companies are on Facebook, 97 percent have a presence on LinkedIn, and in one single hack in 2013 two million passwords for these and other social media sites were stolen.
