Female Law Profs Illegally Underpaid

Female law professors at the University of Denver have been paid less than their male counterparts in a pattern of wage violations dating back to 1973, the EEOC has determined. The agency will require the university to raise wages of current female employees, and give back pay. A 2012 memo by law dean Martin Katz discussed merit raises and made salary comparisons, and revealed that female full professors made about $16,000 less on average than male full professors. The school has defended its pay structure, saying the gaps are due to professors’ ranks, duties, age, and performance scores.
