Google Will Fight Warrant Over Search Results

An identity thief took to Google to find an image to use on a fake passport. The thief used that passport to obtain $28,500 through a line of credit with the victim’s credit union. Police in Edina, Minnesota have found that the image of the victim is only discoverable via Google search (not Yahoo or Bing), and issued a search warrant seeking information about anyone who searched the name of the victim. “We will continue to object to this overreaching request for user data, and if needed, will fight it in court,” a Google spokesperson told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “We always push back when we receive excessively broad requests for data about our users.”
