Law Departments See Regulation As Biggest Challenge

A law department benchmarking report from Consilio LLC finds that more than half of law departments identify regulatory requirements as their biggest challenge. Many of these requirements deal with the relatively new issues of data privacy and cybersecurity, and the same survey finds that well over half of departments have an internal data-privacy program. However, just 21 percent take the same precautions with information shared externally, including information shared with vendors. Other findings in the report relate to e-discovery outsourcing. Larger companies – those with over $10 billion in revenue – are far more likely to outsource e-discovery to non-law firm vendors than are companies in the next smallest identified tier, companies that have between $2 and $10 billion in revenue.
