Lawyer’s Wife Loses Federal Dog Elevator Lawsuit

The wife of a prominent Chicago bankruptcy attorney lost her bid to secure a dog-free elevator in her condo building. Holly Geraci filed the discrimination lawsuit in March 2015, claiming her fear of dogs should be honored under the Fair Housing Act. A jury in the U.S. District Court in Chicago disagreed and found in favor of the condo association. “They didn’t believe that Holly Geraci actually suffered from a disability as it’s defined by the Fair Housing Act,” said Graham Miller, an attorney representing the condo association. Geraci said she suffers post-traumatic stress disorder following an attack by a German shepherd when she was younger. She filed several complaints to the board, asking that she be allowed to ride the elevator without dogs.
