MLK Jr. Heirs End Legal Squabble

In January 2014, Martin Luther King III and Dexter Scott King voted in favor of selling their father’s Nobel Peace Prize and travel Bible. Their sister Bernice King voted against the sales. Thus began a legal battle pitting King’s heirs against one another. The issue was originally set to go to trial in February 2015, but Fulton County Judge Robert McBurney ordered all action halted to allow the sides to attempt to resolve the issue out of court. Former President Jimmy Carter confirmed he was working as a mediator in the case. On July 1, McBurney ruled that the Bible belonged to the estate – over which all three siblings serve as directors. “It is unclear if the medal and Bible go up for sale with the estate now in possession,” NPR writes.
