Parents Sue Crocs, Waikiki Resort After Toddler Escalator Emergency

A two-year-old wearing Crocs was caught in an escalator at a Waikiki resort. It ripped off an extensive section of skin and required emergency surgery. Now the parents are suing Crocs and the resort, saying the shoes were “negligently and improperly designed,” and that the Hilton Hawiian Village was negligent in maintaining the escalator’s safety. The lawsuit was originally filed in Hawaii state court, but has been transferred to federal court. The boy’s foot was trapped for nearly an hour before a rescue team arrived with proper equipment. The lawsuit claims that Crocs knew as early as 2008 that children suffer severe injuries when the shoes are trapped in small spaces on escalators.
