Reid Says Clinton Will Re-Nominate Garland

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told reporters he was convinced that if elected, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton would re-nominate Merrick Garland to fill the Supreme Court vacancy. Garland was nominated by President Barack Obama in March, following the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. “I would think she and all the people around her would say, ‘Why do we need to rock the boat here? Let’s get him confirmed and move on to the next one, whenever that comes,’” Reid said. Senate Republicans have obstructed Garland’s nomination, refusing to even hold hearings, saying the next president should get the chance to fill the vacancy. Clinton has not committed to re-nominating Garland.
