A prominent Kentucky lawyer who President Donald Trump nominated for a federal appeals court judgeship, John Bush, wrote more than 400 blog posts from 2007 to 2016 under the pseudonym “G. Morris.” Bush revealed the secret blog postings on his questionnaire submitted to the Senate Judiciary Committee ahead of confirmation hearings. Bush, who has worked at the Louisville, Kentucky-based firm Bingham Greenebaum Doll since 1996, included many personal opinions in the posts on his blog, called, “Elephants in the Bluegrass.” He wrote that Texas Sen. Ted Cruz was a “sore loser” for not endorsing Trump during the Republican National Convention. Cruz will be one of the Senators posing questions to Bush as part of his nomination hearings for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Bush also wrote that he opposed the Affordable Care Act, opposed public financing of political campaigns, and called the idea of trying terrorists in civilian courts “bone-headed.” He also said that slavery and abortion were the “two greatest tragedies in our country.” Bush has been involved in Kentucky politics, including volunteering for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s 2008 and 2014 re-election campaigns.
