Scientists are calling it “highly superior autobiographical memory,” or HSAM. Some people remember every day of their lives in detail – the weather, events in the news, as well what they were doing, and where. Apparently it has no physiological correlate, at least nothing grossly apparent like having an extra lobe in the brain, although there does seem to be some “additional wiring.” But then again, says one expert in this BBC report, it’s hard to say whether that’s cause or effect. One theory is that in part it’s a habit of mind, and one that to some extent can be intentionally nurtured.
