The Trump Administration has winnowed the list down to finalists for the outside legal team that will help the president navigate ongoing investigations into his campaign and Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election. The Washington Post reports that finalists are: Marc E. Kasowitz, a partner at Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman in New York who has represented Trump in numerous cases, including the Trump University case; Robert J. Giuffra Jr., a partner at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York; Reid H. Weingarten, an attorney at Steptoe & Johnson in Washington; and Theodore B. Olson, a former U.S. solicitor general who is now partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher’s Washington office. Michael D. Cohen, a longtime Trump attorney and executive at the Trump Organization, is the president’s personal attorney and confidant, and is involved in the discussions as well, the Post reports. Trump has been personally involved in the selection process, and is expected to unveil his legal unit in coming days. It is likely to consist of prominent attorneys from several firms. Trump has reportedly said he would prefer a team rather than a sole attorney. The White House has not yet clarified how Trump would pay for his legal team, which cannot be paid for by the federal government.
