In Florida, 21 polo horses died after they received 100 times the prescribed dose of the supplement selenium. The horses’ owner, the insurer and three professional polo players have filed suit, seeking more than $4 million and naming as defendants both the compounding pharmacy and the veterinarian who dispensed the product. But the veterinarian, according to an expert witness, was not negligent for failing to check the contents of what he administered. Meanwhile, the lab that formulated the prescription maintains the horses have been overvalued.
