Activist May Be Jailed For Laughing At Sessions Hearing

Activist Desiree Fairooz was convicted this week of laughing during Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ confirmation hearing. Fairooz was arrested during opening statements when she laughed at Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby’s assertion that Sessions had a history of “treating all Americans equally under the law.” Two other activists dressed as Ku Klux Klan members were also arrested. Fairooz was found guilty of disrupting Congress and parading/demonstrating. Each charge is a misdemeanor with a statutory maximum of six months in jail or a $1,000 fine. Fairooz, a long-time member of activist group Code Pink, has been arrested as many as 10 times, according to NBC News.
