Advanced Ransomware Infects Backups Too

Ransomware, said in this article to be among the easiest threats to control (avoid opening suspicious emails) has an insidious offshoot. It’s been dubbed “wiperware” by security specialists; some call them “wiper worms.” These are sophisticated programs that target – along with files, data, and an operating system’s boot instructions – backups, of both systems and data. That could mean that attempts at restoration will just replicate the problem. “I see wiper worms as one of the top cyberthreats for 2020,” says one expert.
