Anti-Virus Doesn’t Work – Use It Anyway

One security professional has said that anti-virus software as a protection against malware is about as effective as crossing your fingers as a form of birth control, and that you’re better off without it because it makes you more likely to engage in risky behavior. The author of this post takes this proposition seriously, but he explains why it’s good practice to use “AV” anyway. He also has two other suggestions for basic internet security. One of them is a precaution virtually everyone is familiar with: When in doubt, don’t click. The other is more obscure. It involves using a second piece of technology and keeping something between it and the primary one: thin air.
