Washington, D.C. lawyer Lanny Davis, known for his work for the Clinton White House, has joined the legal team representing President Trump’s former personal attorney, Michael Cohen. Cohen admits paying porn star Stormy Daniels $130,000, but has been close-mouthed about whether it was hush money so she wouldn’t discuss her affair with Trump prior to the 2016 election. Davis was a legal adviser to Harvey Weinstein before stepping down. His expertise is in crisis management. He served as special counsel to Bill Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky scandal. He is acting as co-counsel for Dmytro Firtash, the Ukrainian oligarch said to be an ally of former Paul Manafort client Viktor Yanukovych. Firtash, under indictment in Illinois, has assembled an all-star legal team including former U.S. Attorney Dan Webb and former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, as well as Davis. Although Cohen has yet to be charged with a crime, a hearing has been held to see which of the legal documents he retains concerning his dealings with Trump are subject to attorney-client privilege. Some of the documents in question have been shredded.
