Most legal writing is bloated with verbiage, and a wordy brief “has one count against it already,” writes attorney Theda C. Snyder for Attorney at Work. She includes several tips for writing legal documents that are shorter, more clear, and won’t test a judge’s attention span. Getting rid of unnecessary adjectives and adverbs, avoiding passive phrasing and cutting repetitive words and phrases will go a long way, Snyder says.
