Lincoln Beauregard is the attorney heading up a sexual molestation lawsuit against Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, and though he has a track record of multi-million-dollar successes, some say his aggressive, media-friendly tactics cross the line of professional conduct. Beauregard sparked a firestorm when he sent an email to Murray’s lawyer, and included a BCC to “local and national media.” Murray’s team has asked a judge to sanction Beauregard for the move, which Seattle University ethics professor John Strait said he has never seen from a lawyer “in over 45 years of practice.” There are now four individuals accusing Murray of paying for sex, but only one – who says he was a minor at the time of the sexual encounter – is suing the mayor. Murray vehemently denies all the claims. Murray and his representatives have accused Beauregard of a political conspiracy linked to an anti-LGBTQ agenda, a charge which Beauregard says so angered him that he began attacking with more vigor. Last year the city of Seattle accused Beauregard of trying to “smear” Police Chief Kathleen O’Toole while representing officers who sued the city. Lawyers for “Deadliest Catch” TV star Sig Hansen claimed that Beauregard, who represents Hansen’s daughter in a suit alleging her father sexually abused her, threatened to go to the press and put a “billboard on the freeway” if his client’s demands were not met. The story profiles the controversial, and successful, lawyer, who rose to prominence after dropping out of high school.
