A Deeper Look At Recent EEOC Charge Stats

Last month the EEOC released updated charge statistics for 2013. Littler Mendelson attorney David N. Goldman looks at the numbers and what they mean for employers who want to avoid problems in 2014, and specifically what they suggest regarding training priorities. Among the findings: Discrimination and retaliation claims have become far more common than harassment claims, and among discrimination claims, a category that constituted only a small percentage – four-tenths of a percent – in 2013 nonetheless bears watching. It was virtually unheard of a few years ago, so that small percent actually represents a 66 percent increase in three years.
