Many companies are now redoubling efforts to enable as many employees as possible to work from home. This will likely slow down the spread of the Coronavirus, but it also increases the chance the door will be opened to a computer virus and companies need to take note. “Hackers,” warns this client alert from Barton LLC, “are well aware of employees accessing the network from outdated home routers and computers that haven’t been scanned for viruses since Barack Obama left office.” This period of uncertainty should be an occasion for a thorough review of the company’s cybersecurity systems by way of such things as virus scans, review of network access policies, refreshers on safe access, review of cyber insurance policies, and a re-examination of agreements with customers and vendors.
