Employee Fired, Denied Unemployment After Using Forklift On Vending Machine

Determined to jar loose the 90-cent Twix bar that he fed his workplace’s vending machine a dollar bill for – twice – Robert McKevitt jumped behind the wheel of an 8,000-pound forklift and used it to slam the vending machine against the ground six times. He got three candy bars and, five days later, a pink slip. Then, in a January hearing, a judge refused unemployment benefits for McKevitt, saying he had shown a willful disregard for his employer’s interests.
