EU Regulators Question Google’s Implementation Of “Right To Be Forgotten”

Regulators may come down on Google over its decision to only remove links from European websites in response to the EU’s “right to be forgotten” ruling. EU privacy watchdogs are concerned about the search engine’s decision, which would have it remove Internet links from sites like google.co.uk, but not the widely used google.com, leaving the information readily accessible on the web despite EU citizens’ request that it be removed. Regulators are also concerned about Google’s decision to notify websites when it removes links, which they say may inhibit citizens from requesting help from Google. Data protection authorities are set to meet with representatives from Google, as well as from Microsoft and Yahoo, to discuss the implementation of the regulation.
