Executive Sex Discrimination Case Rivets Silicon Valley

The high-profile sex discrimination case filed by Ellen Pao, a former partner at tech venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers, got underway this week, and observers expect many of the gender biases of Silicon Valley to be exposed as the trial progresses. Pao, who became CEO of Reddit in November, is asking for $16 million in damages, claiming she endured years of sexual harassment and discrimination while at Kleiner Perkins. She claims a junior partner at the firm pressured her into a sexual relationship, and that after cutting it off she endured years of harassment from him, and the firm did nothing to stop it. The firm contests her account and says it looks forward to clearing its name. A Forbes analysis from 2014 found that just 4.2 percent of partners at venture capital firms were female.
