FIFA Case Highlights Parallel Prosecutions

The U.S. has taken the lead in prosecuting FIFA executives alleged to have taken bribes, but it has been joined by Swiss authorities in parallel prosecution, which is becoming increasingly common. “As more and more countries begin to enforce anti-corruption laws, we will see fewer ‘FCPA Compliance Policies’ and more ‘Global Anti-Corruption Policies,’” Lauren Connell from the Volkov Law Group writes. Companies should revisit anti-corruption policies to ensure they are committed to compliance with laws in foreign jurisdictions, as well as to the FCPA.
