Former Lawyer Wants To Marry Laptop, Undermine Gay Rights

One man’s attempt to overturn same-sex marriage has led him to apply to marry his laptop in three separate states. In Kentucky, the man’s application was rejected by County Clerk Kim Davis, who was temporarily jailed last year when she refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses despite a Supreme Court ruling that legalized such unions in all 50 states. After Davis rejected Mark “Chris” Sevier’s request to marry his computer, Sevier sued her. Sevier, a former lawyer whose license was suspended in 2011, hopes to undermine gay rights by arguing that same-sex marriage is the same as marrying an inanimate object. He has been arrested and charged with stalking country singer John Rich, as well as a 17-year-old girl in Nashville, Tenn.
