Hackers Target Presidential Campaigns

The U.S. intelligence community has “already had some indications” of hacking attempts on presidential campaigns, U.S. National Intelligence Director James Clapper said this week. “We’re aware that campaigns and related organizations and individuals are targeted by actors with a variety of motivations – from philosophical differences to espionage – and capabilities – from defacements to intrusions,” Clapper’s spokesman Brian Hale said in a statement. Some threats to campaigns have been serious enough to warrant briefings to relevant congressional committees, and Clapper predicted more threats as the campaigns intensify. Presumptive GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump has already seen his hotel properties targeted, with hackers twice breaching credit card systems used by Trump Hotel Collection.
