He Refused To Text & Drive So They Fired Him, Says Safety Manager

The former safety manager of a trucking company alleges that higher-ups told him he should text and drive “like everyone else” and they fired him when he refused. Part of the man’s job was to supervise company truckers and enforce a policy that forbade the practice. The lawsuit alleges violation of whistleblower laws, as well as wrongful termination and age discrimination. In a statement, the COO of the southern California-based company told Land Line, a trade magazine for truckers, that the company’s policy does include “the restriction of texting and driving,” that a preliminary investigation has found the plaintiff’s claims have no merit, and that the company expects to prevail in court.
