Their modus operandi followed what’s become a familiar pattern. The bogus email appeared to come from the CEO, and in this case it asked the recipients to send a return email with some gift card links. The company, which happened to be in the cybersecurity business, decided to seize the opportunity and try to determine what was on the other of the line. This post goes into some detail on how they did it, first taking the bait and then setting their own hook.
