In Turnaround, CA Reports Self-Driving Car Accidents

After pressure from the Associated Press, the California Department of Motor Vehicles reversed its policy and reported accidents involving self-driving cars. The six reported accidents were minor, with no injuries serious enough to require treatment, and apparently were the other vehicle’s fault. Google and car parts manufacturer Delphi have for years been testing self-driving cars, always with a person inside the vehicle even when it’s in self-driving mode. The “property-damage-only crashes” accident rate for Google’s self-driving cars is slightly above the national average, the AP article says, but Google officials maintain that average doesn’t include as many as five million minor accidents that go unreported every year.
