Judges Gone Wild: Sex, Delegation, Led CA To Discipline 43 Last Year

Two judges had sex in their chambers, a traffic court judge allowed his clerk to hear pleas and impose sentences, and a family law court called one mother a “train wreck” and a “liar.” These were among the revelations in the annual report from the California Commission on Judicial Performance. The Los Angeles Times reports that the vast majority of complaints against judges result in no discipline and most are settled with private letters. Elected judges are more likely to have complaints lodged against them, and fewer complaints are filed against female and more senior judges.
