Lawyers Recount ‘Dog And Pony Show’ In Trump U Case

This is a first-person account of the Trump University trial that became a political football this election season, from the small San Diego firm that took the case. When Zeldes Haeggquist & Eck filed a class-action lawsuit in 2010 the firm had no way to foresee Trump’s future. “Nobody could have seen Donald Trump’s rise politically,” said attorney Helen Zeldes. The firm brought on the much larger firm Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd to help litigate. Zeldes attended a Trump University seminar while building the case. “My heart broke,” she said. “I thought, ‘Wow, this is really a dog and pony show.’” The article details how the case moved forward, and how a $25 million settlement was eventually reached.
