Managing Partner Headed For Texas Bench

The Senate Judiciary Committee has approved four nominees to fill federal district court vacancies in Texas, among them Karen Gren Scholer, co-managing partner of the Dallas law firm Carter Scholer, who will sit on the Northern District of Texas bench if the full Senate approves. Texas is the nation’s leader in federal judicial vacancies. There are empty seats on 11 district courts and two on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Three district court nominees, Fernando Rodriguez Jr. for the Southern District of Texas, Matthew Kacsmaryk for the Northern District of Texas and Jeff Mateer for the Eastern District of Texas, have yet to receive a hearing. Mateer’s pick stirred some controversy after it was revealed that he’d described transgender children as evidence of “Satan’s plan,” and compared the treatment of Christians during the Obama administration to the treatment of people in Nazi Germany. He currently serves as the First Assistant Attorney General of Texas.”Our state deserves highly qualified individuals who are leaders both in the courtroom and their communities, and these nominees will serve Texas well,” said Texas Sen. John Cornyn.
