“Mark Of The Beast” Trumps A Biometric Test

An employee said that submitting to a biometric hand scanner, a device which the employer had installed to replace some older timekeeping technology, “would make him take on the Mark of the Beast,” Faegre Baker Daniels attorneys write in their summary of this peculiar case. The employer offered what it considered a reasonable accommodation, based on its own interpretation of the Book of Revelation: It would scan only the man’s left hand, not his right. That would not do, the employee said. A jury in a Virginia federal court agreed with the employee, awarding him $150,000.
