When Gambino mob boss  Francesco “Franky Boy” Cali was shot six times and killed outside his Staten Island home on March 15 the news was full of speculation about a war between rival Mafia factions, but it turns out the alleged perp was just another nut with a gun. Anthony Comello, 24, had a crush on Cali’s niece. Cali, a watchful uncle, nixed the relationship. Friends say that rebuff pushed the already somewhat unhinged Comello over the edge. He appeared in court for the first time on March 18 with “MAGA forever” and references to the ultra-conservative QAnon movement scrawled in ink on his hand. He is said to have managed a radical social media account called realamericasvoice which is filled with pro-gun, anti-woman, anti-Democrat and pro-Trump posts. According to New York police, he appeared outside City Hall a few months ago in an attempt to make a citizen’s arrest of Mayor Bill DeBlasio. An anonymous friend of Comello’s said he’d been an ordinary kid in high school, chasing girls and getting into fights, but he started smoking weed and popping pills and went off the rails. “It’s sad,” said his friend. “Because of who he killed, it’s a matter of time before he’s found dead in jail.”
