More Female Attorneys Please, Says Brooklyn Judge

Jack B. Weinstein, 96, a senior federal judge in Brooklyn, has issued a rule urging a visible and substantive role for female attorneys in cases he hears. He took the step after a New York State Bar Association report found that female lawyers appear in court less frequently than men, and have a less substantive role when they do. One other federal judge in Brooklyn, Ann M. Donnelly, has a similar rule, but the two are in a distinct minority. Only about 20 other judges have established such provisions.
