More Litigation Predicted For "Autodialers," Now More Broadly Defined

The Federal Communications Commission has issued a declaratory ruling that expands the reach of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. The new ruling broadens the definition of  an “automatic telephone dialing system” and many companies are going to have to change their practices as a result, according to a post from Foley & Lardner. The ruling also confirms what company defenders say are unrealistic consent criteria and clarifies strict rules that apply when phone numbers have been reassigned to a new user.
