Olive Oil Labeling Plaintiffs Sue Bankrupt Company Owners, Allege Looting

A class of consumers alleging misleading labeling of olive oil sued Kangadis Foods Inc., also known as The Gourmet Factory. Plaintiffs say the company’s “100 percent pure” oil contains pomace, which is made from skins and pits subjected to solvents at high pressure. The company, claiming the dispute has already cost it $1.4 million in legal bills and will cost more if it goes to trial, declared bankruptcy. Now the plaintiffs are suing the company owners in the Southern District of New York, alleging that in anticipation of a judgment on the initial lawsuit they have looted the company.
