What Recent Decisions In Northern CA “Food Court” Say About Class Certification

Three recent decisions in the Northern District of California, considered the epicenter of food labeling class actions, shed light on the question of class certification in these kinds of cases, writes Bryan Cave attorney James Smith. In two cases certification was denied. In a third, the class was certified. The differences are instructive, Smith writes, and he suggests a number of defense strategies in the face of what he calls this “thriving business for plaintiffs’ counsel.”
