RNC Vendor Exposed Millions Of Voter Files Online

An expansive Republican database of voters, including information from 198 million Americans, was left vulnerable to virtually anyone with a computer for days. The data was compiled by Deep Root Analytics, which advises campaigns on TV advertising. The group had been retained by the Republican National Committee. It updated its access settings and put protocols in place to prevent future access once it was alerted of the data breach. “We accept full responsibility, will continue with our investigation, and based on the information we have gathered thus far, we do not believe that our systems have been hacked,” Deep Root told NPR. Chris Vickery, a cyber-risk analyst with the firm UpGuard, discovered the trove of data.
