SCOTUS May Examine MLB Antitrust Exemption

The San Jose City Council voted unanimously to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to examine the nearly century-old Major League Baseball antitrust exemption. The city hopes to complete a deal that would move the Oakland A’s to San Jose, but are prevented by current major league rules, which are enabled by the antitrust exemption. The lawsuit challenging the exemption was rebuffed by the Ninth Court of Appeals, which said that only the Supreme Court or Congress could change the law.
