Tech Firms: Trump Immigration Order Causing “Significant Harm”

Ninety-seven of the leading U.S. tech firms – including Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Facebook – backed Washington state’s legal objection to an executive order on immigration signed by President Donald Trump. In amicus briefs, the tech firms said the immigration policy is inflicting “significant harm on American business, innovation, and growth.” Trump’s immigration order, issued late last month, banned entry into the U.S. for three months for citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries. It also immediately prevented refugees and permanent residents of the U.S. from entering the country, which caused confusion at the nation’s airports. U.S. District Judge James Robart ruled in favor of Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s challenge to the order last Friday, issuing an emergency injunction that prevented the government from enforcing the order nationwide. In their filing, the tech companies wrote: “There is not precedent for an order like this one in magnitude or kind.”
