Texas Lawyer Will Be First Black Bachelorette

Rachel Lindsay, a 31-year-old attorney from Texas, will be the star of “The Bachelorette,” ABC’s dating show that spun off of “The Bachelor.” Lindsay received her law degree from Marquette University in 2011, and is a personal injury lawyer for the Dallas firm Cooper & Scully. This marks the first time that the show, which debuted 14 years ago, will feature an African American lead. The show has, however, featured black, Asian, and Iranian contestants, and one Hispanic man has been featured as the titular bachelor. Lindsay is a contestant on the current season of “The Bachelor.” “I’m ready to find love, find a husband,” she said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” which made the announcement.
