Tips for Lawyers To Avoid Burnout

Lawyers are “paid worriers,” prone to anxiety, and likely be perfectionists and pessimists, according to several former attorneys and current health care professionals who spoke to ABA Journal. Studies have shown that lawyers suffer from depression at more than 3 times the rate of other professions, and they have a sense of acceptance rather than outrage. “Lawyers are a help-rejecting population,” says Alan Levin, a former labor and employment attorney who co-founded the Care for Lawyers therapy practice. Some key adjustments lawyers can make to avoid excessive anxiety include meditation, breathing exercises, yoga, eating right, and getting enough sleep.
