Twitter Sued For "Secret" Promotion Process Favoring Men

A former female software engineer is suing Twitter, saying the company tells only certain workers about job openings and promotion opportunities, and those alerted are disproportionately male. Tina Huang filed a proposed class-action lawsuit, just one day after a former Facebook worker accused the company of widespread gender bias and discrimination. Twitter’sinformal job application and promotion process is handled by secret management committees who determine who rises in the company internally, according to Huang’s suit. The committees’ judgments “are tainted with conscious or unconscious prejudices and gender-based stereotypes, which explains why so few women employees at Twitter advance to senior and leadership positions,” the lawsuit states.
