Twitter Workforce Census: White and Male, Like Other Tech Giants

Bucharest, Romania - March 28, 2012: Twitter logo is displayed on a mobile phone screen. Twitter is an online social networking service and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based posts.

The company reported that its employees are 60 percent white, and 70 percent male, putting them in roughly the same category as Facebook, Yahoo and Google, all of which reported low diversity numbers in recent months. At Twitter, blacks, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders and Hispanics combined to make up less than seven percent of the company’s U.S. work force. “[L]ike our peers, we have a lot of work to do,” Janet Van Huysse, vice president of diversity and inclusion for Twitter, said in a company blog post.
